Protect
Your Identity!
What
can you do to protect your identity? Guard your personal
information! Here are some
tips for keeping your private information secure:
Do not carry your Social Security card in your wallet
Properly discard documents containing account numbers or other nonpublic personal information
Change your passwords and PIN numbers regularly.
Do not use obvious codes such as birthdays or the names of family members.
Memorize passwords and PIN numbers
Carefully review your bank and credit card statements as well as your bills. Call if you do not recognize a charge.
Order your credit report every year. All consumers
are entitled to one free credit report annually (www.annualcreditreport.com).
Promptly respond to any inaccurate information
Destroy or shred any offers of pre-approved credit cards you do not intend to use and beware of offers from companies you don't recognize
DO NOT give personal information over the phone, via email or text message unless you solicited the call. If someone calls stating they are from your bank or credit card company, ask for a number to call them back – and then make sure it's really an official number
